Book Covers For NaNo

When I updated the synopsis of my book yesterday, I realized that I still haven’t gotten around to uploading a temporary book cover yet. Inside the empty box where a possible book cover ought to be, the kind people at NaNo posted this:

Is this True? Do any of you have book covers uploaded? I feel like I’ve spent to much time today trying decide how to create a book cover without stealing pictures from a Google search. I could stage my own cover shot, but I really don’t have time to do that right now. Any suggestions?

  1. I /had/ a cover for my novel made. Then I went and changed up my idea on Day 2. I don’t have a title for it yet, but once I have one, I’m DEFINITELY making another cover. I used a site called ‘Canva’

  2. It might end up taking up more of your time than it’s worth. If you’re a very visual person, though, maybe it would help to have a cover. I wouldn’t stress over it. Some people have the talent and know-how to crank out a cover, and that’s great for them. Some people just upload an image and let that take care of it. Of course you can check out the forum for artists, where there are people who volunteer to make covers for others, I think as much as practice for themselves as anything.

This year is the first time in 6 NaNo’s that I’ve had a cover uploaded, and it’s literally just a picture I took myself. I started putting text on it, realized I didn’t know how to make it look good, and just left it as a picture. But when I don’t have a cover image, it doesn’t really bother me. I don’t think it increases or decreases my chances of winning. It’s just a visual.

    1. I am the type that can’t stand to have boxes unchecked, lines left blank, and messages in the inbox. I wish it didn’t bother me, but i did find something pretty cool that queenofblank just posted. It’s called Canva. Super easy to use and lots of graphics and pictures to choose from. It was just too easy!

  3. I think the idea of a “cover” is just to help with visualization. I grab a Google search image that gives the general feeling and I might change it as the month progresses. I don’t like boxes unchecked, either, but I’ll get a cover made when it’s all said and done. Although, I must now check out Canva… (procrastination to writing commencing now)

P.S., thanks for coming by my blog. Hope to see you back again!! 🙂

      1. I try to stay away from Facebook and the like while I write. If I find it too difficult, I use a program like “Cold Turkey” to block internet access while I write. It works really well…when I remember to use it. 🙂

        1. I’m going to have to check that out! I already uninstalled all of the Fb apps from my phone and removed it from my bookmarks bar. I’ve even had to shut off all of the notifications on my phone except for incoming calls. And yet, i still find find myself getting distracted by the internet from time to time. thanks for the tip!
